penguin book week 2

This week on the brief i have been researching each of the books and what kind of books they are. I started looking at to kill a mocking bird and took a look at the synthesis and what the book was about then researched some already existing book covers.

To Kill A Mockingbird; To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in Alabama during the Depression, and is narrated by the main character, a little girl named Jean Louise "Scout" Finch. Her father, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer with high moral standards.

After this i went on to research some already existing book covers that people had designed using the website visual news  and the article 20 Beautifully Designed Book Covers Of Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird"

some of the names I found were; Jamie Whitelaw, Sarah Jane Coleman, Ariana Greear and Dom Chung to name but a few.

To Kill A Mockingbird cover by Dom chung.

I then went on to research the other books In Cold Blood and The secret diary of Adrian Mole.

The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾; is the first book in theAdrian Mole series of comedic fiction, written by Sue Townsend. The book is written in a diary style, and focuses on the worries and regrets of a teenager who believes himself to be an intellectual.

To research some book covers for this book I used Pinterest  to search some artists who had already designed some covers for this book. in this search I found the names; patricia Furtado, The original Sue Townsend and Carys Reynolds

book cover by Carys Reynolds.

I then went on the research the book In Cold Blood.

In Cold Blood; tells the true story of the murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, in 1959. The book is written as if it were a novel, complete with dialog, and is what Truman Capote referred to as "New Journalism"

I then researched some book covers; Hannah Dougan, Vivian Cheung, Michael Mackay

Penguin book week 1

On week one of this brief we were given the actual brief to start working on. The idea of this brief will enable our practice to become outward facing and contextual in relation to one of the industry briefs that have been made available for us. Over a period of 6 weeks, we will research, evaluate and define a range of issues, and discuss these in relation to the production of a body of visual work. we will produce work that communicates our ideas and applies appropriate aesthetic and technical awareness.
